🎨 In this project, students celebrated 42 different Black visual artists in honor of Black History Month. Each table within 3rd and 4th grade created their very own foil balloon that is meant to represent one artist that was chosen at random from a basket. Students researched their artists, each made small sketches based on their research, collaborated to combine their ideas on full scale sketches, transferred their sketches to aluminum foil with the use of pen and sharpie, and then added color. The foil was then cut out, laminated, and filled with air. The balloons are meant to “elevate” these artist and their namesakes.

Historical and Contemporary artists included:

Kehinde WIley, Ashante Kindle, Kenneth Ize, Howardena Pindell, Jacob Lawrence, Al Black, Alma Thomas, Jean Michel Basquiat, Faith Ringold, Toyin Ojih Odultola, Kerry James Marshall, Odili Donald Odita, Nick Cave, Norman Lewis, Harriet Powers, Amy Sherald, Chakaia Booker, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Aaron Douglas, Sam Gilliam, Benjamin Wigfall, Mickalane Thomas, Lois Mailou Jones, Jordan Casteel, Derrick Adams, Robert S.
